Erin Brockovich Speaks Up For Yadkin River

Winston-Salem, NC -- The fight over protecting the Yadkin River just got some added star power.
Environmental activist Erin Brockovich came to Winston-Salem tonight to urge lawmakers to better protect the river.

Brockovich spoke at Wake Forest University. The lecture was organized by Yadkin Riverkeeper to address sustainability and the Yadkin Hydroelectric Project.

The dams along the river are owned by Alcoa. Brockovich and Riverkeeper want to make sure any of Alcoa's profits from the Yadkin Hydroelectric Project go back into keeping the river clean and creating jobs.

In her lecture, Brockovich said that in her many environmental battles she has learned change takes time.

"You can take one problem at a time, break it down into achievable steps and never give up," said Brockovich.

Brockovich became famous after her environmental legal battles in California, which were depicted in the film that shares her name.
